Meaning comes first.
A translation should communicate the intended meaning to its reader. We establish the audience, language variant, preferred terminology and purpose of the content, then use those decisions to guide the work. Scripts, learning material and business communications can each require a different register.
Source, context and terminology
Send the editable source where available, target languages and any glossary or approved examples. Flag names, product terms and wording that must remain unchanged. If the source is ambiguous, we seek clarification instead of silently choosing a meaning.
Human review against the source
Review covers meaning, omissions, terminology, names, numbers and consistency. The delivery format and any layout or character limits are agreed in the brief. If the translated text will be recorded or subtitled, we can plan those requirements from the start.
When is localisation needed?
Translation carries meaning between languages. Localisation also considers cultural references, conventions and the way content will be experienced in a particular market. We discuss that wider adaptation when a direct translation would not serve the audience.
