Transliteration

Transliteration represents sound in a different script; translation conveys meaning in another language. A recording script may need one or both. We agree the target writing system and the conventions your readers will recognise before preparing the text.
Built for the person reading it
Tell us who will use the text and in which writing system they are most comfortable. Include pronunciations for names, brands and specialist terms where available. For performance scripts, we can discuss useful reading cues and a consistent way to represent sounds.
Consistency across the script
We check repeated terms, proper names and the relationship between the source and the converted text. Ambiguous pronunciations are flagged for clarification. Source and transliterated versions can be arranged together when that is part of the agreed delivery format.
Will the meaning be translated as well?
Only if translation is part of the brief. Transliteration alone changes the writing system while retaining the original language and pronunciation. If your audience needs the meaning in another language, include translation in the scope.
